Behavioral and emotional disorders encompass a range of issues, including:

  • Conduct disorder

  • Oppositional defiant disorder, and

  • Emotional regulation problems

The disorders have an onset usually occurring in childhood and adolescence.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis involves comprehensive assessments using tools like the DSM-5, Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL), and Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). Evaluations consider behavioral patterns, emotional responses, and social interactions.

Treatment

As we are an adults-only clinic, we may offer treatment only when the condition is carried into adulthood. In such cases, treatment typically includes evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and family therapy. These approaches aim to improve behavior management, emotional regulation, and social skills.

Our clinicians may also prescribe medication if necessary.

Outcome expectations

With appropriate intervention, many patients experience improved behavior, better emotional control, and enhanced relationships. Early and consistent treatment often leads to more favorable outcomes and improved quality of life.

At the Joy of Life Clinic, we use disease categorizations that aim to group conditions by similar psychological symptoms or our treatment approaches, making it easier for our patients to navigate the services we provide.
